NEET 2027 Important & High-Weightage Chapters (Physics, Chemistry, Biology)

You cannot study every line of the NEET syllabus with equal intensity — and you do not need to. Year after year, a focused set of chapters carries the bulk of the marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Knowing which ones lets you sequence your preparation, revise smarter, and protect your score under the exam's +4/−1 marking scheme.

This is a complete, subject-by-subject guide to the high-weightage chapters for NEET 2027 — the must-master cores, the low-effort “quick-win” chapters, the common mistakes that quietly cost marks, and a phased plan to turn all of it into a real practice routine. Because Biology is half the paper (360 of 720 marks), we start there.

Important: Official chapter weightage is notpublished. The figures below are indicative, based on analysis of recent NEET papers (2024–2026). Treat them as a guide to prioritise — never as permission to skip a chapter entirely. Difficulty and distribution shift from year to year.

The 80/20 of NEET: where the marks actually sit

Across recent papers, a few dominant areas in each subject have consistently covered the majority of questions. If your time is limited, this is the order that protects your score:

Where these numbers come from: we counted them ourselves, across all sixteen NEET papers in our solved archive (2015–2026) — 1,490 Biology questions and 744 Physics questions. They are not estimates, and you can check any of them against the papers themselves. Weightage is measured from past papers because it is not published: the official syllabus (PDF) lists what is examinable, never how heavily. Anyone quoting official chapter weightage is quoting an estimate, whether they say so or not.

The two subjects behave completely differently — and most study plans miss it

Put the two columns side by side and something jumps out that changes how you should allocate time.

  • Physics is top-heavy. Mechanics, Electrodynamics and Modern Physics are 76.6% of the subject between them. Here the “focus on the big three” advice is genuinely sound: those three blocks decide your Physics score.
  • Biology is not. Its largest block is 17.5% and its smallest is 8.4% — the marks are spread almost evenly across eight blocks. There is no core that carries the subject, which means coverage beats prioritisation in Biology, the exact opposite of Physics.
  • The block most often left out of “important chapters” lists is the biggest one. Diversity & Morphology — Animal Kingdom, Biological Classification, Plant Kingdom, Morphology and Anatomy of Flowering Plants — is the single heaviest Biology block at 17.5%, and it is routinely deprioritised as rote learning. Skipping it costs more than any other single decision in Biology.

Biology is the heart of NEET — 90 questions, 360 marks, and overwhelmingly NCERT-direct. A near-perfect Biology score is what underpins almost every top rank, so this is where your sharpest focus belongs.

Must-master core

Human Physiology + Genetics & Evolution + Ecology together carry a huge share of the Biology marks. Within these, the Human Physiology systems, Molecular Basis of Inheritance and Ecosystem/Biodiversity are the repeat performers.

Quick-win chapters (low effort, high return)

Some chapters give near-certain marks for very little study time — Biomolecules, Biological Classification, Microbes in Human Welfare, Strategies for Enhancement in Food Production, and Human Health & Disease. These are largely fact- and recall-based and lifted almost verbatim from NCERT. Do not leave them for the last week.

Why NCERT is non-negotiable for Biology

A very large share of Biology questions — including options and one-liners — are lifted almost directly from NCERT lines, diagrams, tables and examples. Line-by-line NCERT revision plus targeted practice is the single highest-return habit in all of NEET.

Common Biology mistakes

  • Reading NCERT once and never revising — Biology is a recall subject, not a one-time read.
  • Skipping NCERT diagrams, tables and in-text boxes, which are frequent question sources.
  • Neglecting Botany while over-focusing on Zoology (or vice versa) — both carry 45 questions.

High-weightage chapters: Chemistry

Chemistry is the fast-scoring middle subject because so many questions come straight from NCERT lines, tables and examples. The three branches contribute almost equally.

Priorities within each branch

  • Physical: Mole Concept and Thermodynamics first — they underpin many other chapters. Then Equilibrium, Kinetics and Electrochemistry.
  • Inorganic: Chemical Bonding and Periodicity are the foundation; Coordination Compounds and p-Block are heavy repeat scorers.
  • Organic: General Organic Chemistry (GOC) is the master key — get mechanisms, inductive/resonance effects and stability right before moving to named reactions in Aldehydes-Ketones-Acids and Amines.

High-weightage chapters: Physics

Physics is the most calculation-heavy subject in NEET and where many students lose time. Mechanics is the single biggest block, and Electrodynamics is close behind — together they decide most Physics scores.

Some chapters give near-certain marks for very little study time — Units & Measurement and Errors, Ray Optics, Semiconductors / Electronic Devices, and Electromagnetic Waves. These are typically short, formula- or memory-based questions. Do not leave them for the last week.

  • Memorising formulas without practising application on numericals.

Class 11 vs Class 12: how the weightage splits

NEET draws from both years roughly evenly, so Class 11 chapters are not safe to forget. A few high-yield Class 11 anchors: Cell Biology, Plant Physiology, Biological Classification and Morphology (Biology); Mole Concept, Chemical Bonding and Periodicity (Chemistry); Laws of Motion and Units & Measurement (Physics). Class 12 then adds the heavyweights: Human Physiology, Genetics, Ecology and Biotechnology (Biology); Coordination Compounds and Organic functional groups (Chemistry); EMI and Modern Physics (Physics). If you are in Class 11 now, building these foundations strong is a strong head-start for 2027.
